Liquid Crystal Lattice Models Ii. Confined Systems

چکیده
Monte Carlo simulations of lattice spin models represent a powerful method for the investigation of confined nematic liquid crystals and allow a study of the molecular organization and thermodynamics of these systems. Here some models of confined liquid crystals, such as polymer dispersed liquid crystals, twisted nematic, in-plane switching liquid crystal displays and hybrid aligned films are described together with their computer simulations.

Liquid Crystal Lattice Models I. Bulk Systems
Monte Carlo simulations of spin models for liquid crystal bulk systems are described. A concise description of second rank Lebwohl-Lasher models of various dimensionality and of models containing in addition interactions of first and fourth rank is provided. Biaxial lattice models are also briefly discussed.
متن کاملFrom molecular to continuum modelling of bistable liquid crystal devices
We study nematic equilibria on a square with tangent Dirichlet conditions on the edges, in three different modelling frameworks: (i) the off-lattice Hard Gaussian Overlap and Gay–Berne models; (ii) the lattice-based Lebwohl–Lasher model; and the (iii) two-dimensional Landau-de Gennes model. We compare the modelling predictions, identify regimes of agreement and in the Landaude Gennes case, find...
متن کاملResonant Carbon K-Edge Soft X-Ray Scattering from Lattice-Free Heliconical Molecular Ordering: Soft Dilative Elasticity of the Twist-Bend Liquid Crystal Phase.
Resonant x-ray scattering shows that the bulk structure of the twist-bend liquid crystal phase, recently discovered in bent molecular dimers, has spatial periodicity without electron density modulation, indicating a lattice-free heliconical nematic precession of orientation that has helical glide symmetry. In situ study of the bulk helix texture of the dimer CB7CB shows an elastically confined ...
متن کاملReview of liquid-crystal phase transitions with quenched random disorder
Recent experimental and theoretical efforts have focused on using liquid-crystal systems as a test bed for understanding the statistical mechanics of quenched random disorder. In particular, the weakly first-order isotropic to nematic (I–N) and the second-order nematic to smectic-A (N–SmA) phase transitions have been intensely studied under two, topologically distinct configurations: (I) confin...
متن کاملGas-liquid Relative Permeability Estimation in 2D Porous Media by Lattice Boltzmann Method: Low Viscosity Ratio 2D LBM Relative Permeability
This work is a primary achievement in studying the CO2 and N2–oil systems. To predict gas-liquid relative permeability curves, a Shan-Chen type multicomponent multiphase lattice Boltzmann model for two-phase flow through 2D porous media is developed. Periodic and bounce back boundary conditions are applied to the model with the Guo scheme for the external body force (i.e.,...
